The danger of a quick tempo

Writer: Kayla AshleyKayla Ashley

We, as followers of Christ, are called to live in a world that is often at odds with Christian values and ways of life.

As you know, we are set apart, walking on a very narrow road.

As I have begun to walk on this narrow path, I have found God often telling me this:

Slow down.

In a society that’s in love with instant gratification, it’s easy to fall right into the trap of hurry.

Not to mention that our attention span is less than a goldfish’s – short-lived, fleeting, momentary.

The world is racing and itching for more. It's a sad reality and can be very easy to get caught up in the wrong race.

You see, friend, time is holy. We often forget that.

Swept away with life and its boundless to-do lists, caught up in the rush. We miss out on so many beautiful moments when we harmonize with the world's pace.

Yet there is good news.

He Who loves us so dearly has a tempo: His tempo, and it’s for you.

Your first sip of coffee this morning, the best right? You took a sip without even a thought of thanking Him; yet He blessed it anyways.

Slow down.

You sit down to read the Word. You read, get up and move on with your routine. What if you would’ve lingered just a little longer? You would’ve heard His gentle yet encouraging whisper to start your day.

Slow down.

You’re driving to work and keep hitting every single red light. Frustrated, grumbling, and complaining, yet little do you know He’s protecting you from a reckless driver.

Slow down.

The danger of a quick tempo is that we miss the true treasure of hearing His heartbeat, the rhythm He has for us.

The goal is intimacy – to be so close that you can hear His heartbeat from His chest.

Oh, how it beats for you.

If you’d just sit still a little longer, linger there just a few seconds more and attentively listen, you’d realize all your hurry was doing was pulling you away from the One you need to cling to the most.

So, my sweet friend…

Slow down.

Align with His tempo.

In doing so, you might just discover the beauty of constantly being in His presence.
